🧠2. Rêziman: Articles & Quantities

Learn how to use articles and express quantities when shopping!

⚠️ Important!

In Kurdish, definite articles (the) are SUFFIXES added AFTER the noun, not separate words before!
They change based on the noun's gender (masculine/feminine).

📌 Definite Articles (the)

Articles are SUFFIXES added to the end of nouns:

Masculine nouns:
• Add to the noun
Examples:
  - sîv → sîvê (apple → the apple)
  - nan → nanê (bread → the bread)
  - pirtûk → pirtûkê (book → the book)

Feminine nouns:
• Add -a to the noun
Examples:
  - mal → mala (house → the house)
  - çante → çanteya (bag → the bag)
  - kitêb → kitêba (book → the book)

Plural nouns (both genders):
• Add -ên to the plural noun
Examples:
  - sîv → sîvan → sîvanên (apples → the apples)
  - nan → nanên (breads → the breads)

📌 Indefinite Articles (a/an)

Two ways to say "a/an":

1. Using "yek" (one):
yek comes BEFORE the noun
Examples:
  - yek sîv (a/one apple)
  - yek nan (a/one bread)

2. Using suffix "-ek":
• Add -ek to the end of the noun
Examples:
  - sîv → sîvek (an apple)
  - pirtûk → pirtûkek (a book)

🔢 Simple Quantities

Numbers:
Yek = One
Du = Two
= Three
Çar = Four
Pênc = Five

Quantity Expressions:
Hindik = A little / A few
Gelek = Many / A lot
Pir = Very / Much
Kîlo = Kilo
Gram = Gram
